百合科

通常为具根状茎、块茎或鳞茎的多年生草本，很少为亚灌木、灌木或乔木状。叶基生或茎生，后者多为互生，较少为对生或轮生，通常具弧形平行脉，极少具网状脉。花两性，很少为单性异株或杂性，通常辐射对称，极少稍两侧对称；花被片6，少有4或多数，离生或不同程度的合生（成筒），一般为花冠状；雄蕊通常与花被片同数，花丝离生或贴生于花被筒上；花药基着或丁字状着生；药室2，纵裂，较少汇合成一室而为横缝开裂；心皮合生或不同程度的离生；子房上位，极少半下位，一般3室（很少为2、4、5室），具中轴胎座，少有1室而具侧膜胎座；每室具1至多数倒生胚珠。果实为蒴果或浆果，较少为坚果。种子具丰富的胚乳，胚小。

本科约230属3 500种，广布于全世界，特别是温带和亚热带地区。我国产60属约560种，分布遍及全国。

本科许多种类有重要的经济价值，如黄精、玉竹、知母、芦荟、麦冬、天门冬、土茯苓、藜芦、贝母、重楼等是著名的中药材，葱、蒜、韭、黄花菜、百合等是很好的菜蔬食品，各地常见栽培。至于作观赏用的就更多了，如玉簪、吊兰、郁金香、萱草等，在园艺上很受欢迎。
